Help! My RTX 3060 Ti stopped working after I upgraded RAM and SSD.
Hey there, new poster! First off, here are the details: Mobo board, Gigabyte B460M DS3H, CPU Intel i5 10400F, old GPU MSI GTX 1070 (8GB), new GPU MSI RTX 3060 Ti Ventus 3x OC (LHR), RAM 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX at 2400 MHz DDR4, SSD Samsung 860 QVO 1TB.
Recently I had some extra cash and upgraded from the 1070 to the 3060 Ti. I bought the card used on the Danish eBay listing for about 430 USD – a fair price here! After installing everything and playing games, it felt super smooth. About four days later, I decided to upgrade further: added two more RAM sticks (same model as before) and a WD Black SN770 1TB M.2 SSD.
At first, I thought I’d done enough. But once I installed the new RAM and SSD, my monitor showed all green and purple lines, making it nearly impossible to tell what was on the screen. The system wouldn’t boot into Windows. I tried everything – reinstalling drivers, updating Windows, even using my brother’s PC for testing. It worked once, then the same glitch returned after driver installation.
Now I’m a bit worried. Did I mess up something? Or is there a problem with the new parts? I really need some advice on how to fix this.
I experienced similar issues with my GPU, though not consistently. I would play for long periods and it would function the following day. After disassembling and reassembling everything, it worked temporarily. I felt confident in my repairs, but problems recurred soon afterward. I don’t recall the exact duration before failure, but it appears your unit is heading in a similar direction... The seller might have been aware of this and decided to dispose of it while it still operated. Static damage during upgrades could also be a factor—though rare, it’s possible.
Thanks for reaching out. It’s understandable to feel uncertain after a week since purchasing the GPU. You might want to consider contacting the seller directly to inquire about a refund or any issues you're facing.
I've tried three problematic GPUs before switching my power supply. I sold them at a low price, mentioning they had issues, hoping someone would try fixing them. This way, I could recoup some money while being transparent about the problems. Just replace them with a cheaper model when you're ready for an upgrade.
