Linux Day1 and understanding how to get games running has been quite a challenge. From trying various proton versions to figuring out how portproton works, the distro includes Lutris. Setting up a dedicated games drive was another hurdle. Hopefully, Lutris will simplify everything and I should be fine now. Still, should I be concerned about games needing third-party launchers like Far Cry 3 or GTA IV?

Other third-party launchers have always worked smoothly once the games were functional. Bethesda, Rockstar, and Cities Skylines are the launchers I've tried recently. The EA game launcher tends to cause issues each time it gets updated.

You should definitely use Steam or GOG for Linux games. I stopped trying to use Wine and those other tricky Linux solutions because they don’t work well anymore.

I'm gradually improving with Lutris, though there have been times apps wouldn't launch and I just skipped ahead. Steam really excels at getting games up and running.

I can only comply. I'm exhausted from battling these programs to get them working. Give it a try—it fails. Discard it and proceed.

I play two Steam titles—Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3—each with its own launcher that works well. I also enjoy Genshin Impact, which isn't on Steam and uses its own Hoyoplay launcher set up via Lutris; it functions smoothly after some testing. The developers have relaxed the anticheat feature for Linux quietly.

Typically creating games is straightforward when using Lutris, but it doesn't rely on software in that way.
