Help for bent pins on LGA 1700 motherboards.
I bought a used B760 board (open boxed) and found a great offer. It turned out to be DDR5, so I had to wait before ordering anything else. I kept the old 12100f and an RX 5700 XT in the new build, but it would only boot after fixing a few issues. The power switch was misaligned, and the CPU LED lit up when I tried to boot. After straightening the pins with an OFLA knife blade, the system moved past the CPU and onto memory but froze. I tried reseating it many times until it finally started. Now Windows 10 is installed and running smoothly for about 25 minutes before a blue screen appears due to memory errors. I’m planning to test the memory slots by swapping them, even though they’re in the right positions. I also bought a Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16) RAM at 6000MHz CL36, though I thought it was too much for the 12100f. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
It really seems to be a problem with the bent pins, which might be the main issue. Even if you fix them, they’re delicate and any small damage could lead to instability and unpredictable errors. I’m not sure the memory is affected. You might want to test them on a different machine or ask someone else to run a memory check there, just to confirm. The second-hand market is usually unreliable... My sympathy.
I've successfully completed a few memory tests and eliminated RAM problems, though running it in single-channel mode seems more reliable. Still, it keeps crashing randomly under stress—blue screens appear whether I'm under load or not. Amazon refused a return, likely because they believe I caused the issue or because I admitted I tried to fix it. My choices now are either try another repair (which probably worsens things) or buy something else. At around $200 CAD, I'm probably going to try another fix, maybe a budget Ali Express board. A b660 DDR4 with an i3 12100F and 16GB RAM would be cheaper than buying a new one.
