I assembled my machine about a year and a half ago. It was the newest model and my details don’t matter now. When I first booted up Chrome, my favorites didn’t load. Typing on a page caused it to freeze and stop working. Other games like League of Legends, World of Warships, and Steam also crashed or refused to connect. The only one that functioned was Skype. Got any suggestions?

The details matter. My assumption is a problem with the system or storage.

I7-4770k with 970GB storage, 4GB RAM, 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, 1TB WD Black SSD, 240GB NVMe SSD. Booting safely now—Chrome should function, likely due to a startup process.

Perform a memory test; issues during it indicated data corruption.

My first thought was the memory. It really seems quite scattered to me.

Sure, I'll adjust my approach since memtest isn't available on your system

I ran a memory check, checked out some stuff, restarted, and everything’s fine now. Rest in peace.

Just switch it off and then turn it back on. That’s quite the odd habit. It seems the memory was the culprit. Clearing it resolved all the issues you were facing.

I really hope so. Thanks! And just to clarify for you—what led you to believe it was connected to memory?

It was my initial reaction when I saw the subject. Non-responsive apps often point to memory issues. It might be a file corruption, though that’s less likely given the typical behavior (a blue screen is more common).
