Hi! Let's try to resolve your WiFi problems without incurring extra charges. You're using a Realtek 8821CE with an XFi gateway on an 800Mbps plan. You're experiencing occasional ping spikes between 30-90 and can't connect to Ethernet from another floor. The 2.4GHz band seems stable but slow (about 48MB/s), while the 5GHz band gives faster speeds but more ping issues. Xfinity says they can't help, but here are some steps you can try:
- Check your router settings for QoS or traffic prioritization.
- Change your Wi-Fi channel to avoid interference on the 2.4GHz band.
- Update your router firmware and restart it.
- Move closer to the router if possible.
- Consider switching from 2.4GHz to 5GHz if you have a compatible device.
- Contact Xfinity for further assistance—they might offer temporary fixes or diagnostics.
Change the channel you're using. Other devices nearby might be on the same frequencies.
You can explore various options to share information within your neighborhood. Consider local community boards, social media groups, or neighborhood apps. These platforms help connect residents and spread updates effectively.
Well, you might need to install an app from Xfinity first. About half of the gateway configurations are available through a web interface, while the other half need an app on your mobile device. That’s pretty annoying in my opinion. One of the main reasons we skip renting their gear is this. For the settings, you’ll want to use a WiFi analyzer app on your phone to see which channels neighbors are using. Then adjust those channels in the gateway settings. I’m not sure what options are available since I don’t pay the high fees for substandard equipment.
