Hello, I just set up a new GPU and PSU, but my PC is getting really hot, especially on the top and sides. After playing a short game, I’m unsure if something went wrong during installation. The new PSU is Corsair RM850e and the GPU is Asus Rog Strix 3080 Ti. Could anyone help me figure out why it’s overheating? Thanks.

This occurs naturally. PCS become warm, as temperatures rise between 60-70°C (145-160°F), which is extremely hot and causes the cases to get hot. The 3080ti is a very warm card, drawing 250-400W, producing a lot of heat. The case will soak up some of that energy.

Verify GPU and CPU temps with hwinfo64; if both under 83°C and 100, proceed without concern.

It requires more than 350 watts, which is quite a lot of energy. If your case doesn’t have enough airflow, the whole space can get very hot.

The entire space will stay warm all the time. Improved ventilation helps remove heat more quickly from the room

The device holds a specific amount of power, and the wider the distribution of heat, the lower the temperature near it will be. I've noticed this before with my BQ Purebase 500, which emits 3080W across its surface, creating a +5°C rise in a tight spot. With improved cooling solutions like better fans, the entire space might feel only a couple of degrees warmer, though it doesn't seem noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand the card I bought tends to run hot, especially after a thorough clean during rebuild. The Coolermaster HAF X case has some missing slots at the back and the rear side is misaligned due to cable routing. It might be worth considering an upgrade. I'm planning to play today with a GPU at 70% and CPU at 64%, which is within normal ranges. Appreciate the help!
