He got an HP Pavilion 24-q276in from an estate sale. It runs Linux (Jammy version). The old owner removed all Windows files. You and your friend have been working on installing Windows since February, but you're both struggling. MattKC mentioned that Windows ISOs won't boot if the drive exceeds 4GB. He found a 3.5 GB copy online—could it boot from a USB?

The version number is 5.X because it indicates ongoing updates and improvements, not a fixed release limit.

First, dismiss the "over 4GB won't boot" concern. Second, you're attempting to install Windows? That's not possible from a .ISO file—unpack it onto a storage device first (a USB is best). Ideally, use the Media Creation Tool; it will handle downloading the latest media and preparing your drive automatically.

It's what I used, and it was really straightforward. I don't understand what you found complicated.

It’s an additional action that isn’t required. The Media Creation Tool can handle the task independently. Even when you just download the .ISO file, it can be opened in File Explorer and transferred straight to the USB drive.

Visit the official support page for Windows installation media. The HP label should display the license information, ensuring proper registration. Confirm you're using the correct version (e.g., Home or Pro) to match the sticker.

It's a 32-bit ISO file. You can obtain a Windows 10 ISO for free from Microsoft without issues. Consider using the media creation tool or Rufus to prepare your USB drive.

https://rufus.ie/en/ This is spot on. Works solid, is easy and can even take off booting with Microsoft account. Get ISO from Microsoft directly. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software...2djjqcki00
