When you start a game on your PC connected to your TV via HDMI, the display automatically enables HDR without any input. The games don’t recognize this setting and won’t let you disable it while playing. You’re asking if there’s a way—possibly through Regedit—to permanently turn off HDR for gaming purposes.

When you turn on HDR in Windows 10 display options, you need to visit Windows HD Color settings and adjust the slider for HDR/SDR brightness balance to align with your regular SDR configurations (monitor settings). I use version 9. You must enable HDR or set it automatically in your monitor preferences. For HDR games, you can adjust the game’s luminance—typically default is 100%, but you often lower it to 95% or 90%. Most HDR-compatible titles include a brightness setting so you can customize it. When you close the game, the monitor will revert automatically to SDR settings (monitor settings), keeping HDR enabled without needing to change it each time. This process is seamless!

The issue remains unresolved, but you can disable it in Windows 10 to prevent it from turning on during gameplay.
