HDDs are experiencing issues in Windows 10 (home server)
Hello everyone, I’m dealing with a Windows 10 home server that hosts BackBlaze, Plex, file sharing, and CCTV tools. Recently, the CCTV stopped saving to the dedicated 4TB HDD. After restarting it worked for a short time before stopping again. I could open the first folder but faced errors like “not found.” The drive isn’t showing up in Diskpart but appears in My Computer. I’ve unplugged it and used another drive, which fixed the recording issue temporarily. Now one of my media drives is malfunctioning but still reachable. From what I see, the drive shows up in Diskinfo and My Computer, yet DiskInfo lists it as uninitialized and shows a few bad sectors. Could you offer any insights or steps to resolve this?
It seems your hard drive is at risk of failure. The best course of action is to back it up and replace it with a new HDD. Also, consider adding more fans to help cool it down—high temperatures can cause early controller issues. Regarding why the drive appears in Windows Explorer even when offline, it might be because the Windows Manager didn’t fully refresh it. You could run the System File Checker to see if there are any system file problems.
