We noticed an existing FIOS ONT unit in the previous place, even though we received the gear from the old apartment. We placed an order for internet to begin today, but so far we haven’t received service. Should we connect the old equipment or rely on the one already there? Is there a way to activate it through Verizon?
The ONT (device with fiber input and outputs for RJ45, Coax, and RJ11) must match the account requirements and remain at that location. It stays with Verizon as it’s owned by them—no payment or rental needed. The Router (FiOS Gateway) functions like a standard router; use it only if you also have FiOS TV service. You can swap ONTs or routers with others, but verify monthly fees are cleared from the bill if you purchase or install one.
