I have a 2x4GB kit on a Vulcan DDR4 3000MHz motherboard. I’m struggling to push speeds above 2400MHz with my R5 2600 and Gigabyte B450M DS3H. It seems the issue might not be the board or CPU, but possibly the memory itself. I managed to get one stick running at 2933MHz. Now, with more demanding games, I realize I need more than 8GB. Should I invest in another 2x4GB kit for around £40 and accept slower speeds, or upgrade to a better 2x8GB model like the Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz for £70 and see if it performs better? Does the extra cost make sense?
I've been working to reach over 2400, using XMP, tweaking frequency and timing manually. Voltages have been adjusted as well. Are voltages set in slots 2 and 4?
Do you have the most recent bios available, or are you worried about missing them?
At first I turned on XMP, but it made my system keep restarting. I adjusted the voltage and frequency manually, even testing 2666mhz, but since I’m not an expert in memory overclocking, I stopped and it’s become a problem I’d rather avoid. Both dimmers are placed correctly.
I think I have the most recent bios. Maybe I was just unlucky with my CPU. If that’s true, the Corsair kit probably won’t make much of a difference.
