After nine hours in Fallout 4, I finally arrived at Diamond City. To be truthful, I was hoping for something more than just a city nestled in the middle of Fenway Park. I mean, Fallout: New Vegas was great—lively, full of exploration, beautiful scenery, and the chance to gamble away in caps felt exciting. Moving from New Vegas to Diamond City was a bit disappointing, especially since Fallout 4 is already a solid title. I still think Diamond City has potential, but New Vegas stands out more in the Fallout series. What about you—did anyone else find the main city in Fallout 4 a bit lacking?

Take it hard. Everyone I know has said the game fell short.

I invested a lot of time in it, but it feels too small. The area around it is mostly filled with guards and then just antagonists, and heading east leads to the largest city which looks overcrowded with more enemies. It would be better if there were more friendly NPCs or welcoming zones, like Diamond City.

Diamond City is the sole issue I have with the game. Except for that, Fallout 4 has been great so far. By the way, where is the NCR in this game?

Okay, so I'm from the Boston area and there is only so much space inside Fenway Park and the story line that revolves around Diamond City is much more important than the flashiness of the city. Remember there is some corruptness and shitty stuff going down in Diamond City and that's what is important, like how the significance of New Vegas was the fact that the guy running it was pretty much a vegetable being kept alive by machines.

NCR refers to the New California Republic. Fallout 4 is set in Boston. You’ll encounter NCR again only if another fallout set appears on the west coast. Bethesda developed its own storyline on the east coast and chose to keep much of the original Fallout series intact. New Vegas and the initial Fallout titles are located in the West.

I mistakenly thought the NCR appeared in Fallout 3, but I’m recalling it incorrectly. It hasn’t been played in a while.

I'm taken aback. I didn't really enjoy Fallout 3 or NV, but I got it the same day I bought it. If you appreciate that satisfying gunplay, it's pretty enjoyable. I was impressed by how much I liked it despite not enjoying the others, especially since the gunplay feels so rewarding. The recoil and damage from firearms are what make it fun for me. I wasn't as excited beforehand, so being pleasantly surprised was nice.

The area around Diamond City is quite lively, which explains why the city remained secure within its walls. Still, it pales in comparison to New Vegas.

New Vegas felt like a dull collection of waste.
