Have you heard about Xeons and what they can do?
This seems like an unusual situation. I'm not keen on purchasing Xeons just for my gaming rig, as it clearly isn't the best fit. This has been shown many times before. I already own two scalable 8171M units (26 cores at 2.6GHz each). My uncle used to be a bit of a power user in CAD, so he wasn't too picky. My main concern is whether these could work in a home setup, especially with the new storage technology. If the game updates support it, could it actually help performance? I'm sorry for the unclear English—I haven't learned this system well, but I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes.
Certainly. The answer is yes. Decide based on what you plan to utilize them for.
These weird xeons would have been even worse than the 8700k for a regular cad. I’d just sell them because they’re worth a good amount of money, and then set up a solid gaming rig too. These would be pretty bad for gaming overall.
For optimal performance, consider using it as a home server. If you don’t already have one, it can also function as a NAS or host virtual machines for various applications like game servers. You’ll likely find appropriate motherboards for these needs. However, they’re quite powerful and consume a lot of energy—making them expensive on eBay.
Occasionally Xeons fit home computers too. I once ran an E5 1650v2 on my main system, but those models are better suited for high-core-count setups with lower frequency needs. As mentioned, it’s usually wiser to sell them and invest the proceeds in more appropriate home-friendly hardware. I still have a few older Xeons for boinc, but I’m gradually replacing them with Ryzen units.
In short, it makes sense that you're looking to sell them or set up an overkill NAS. That seems like the only viable path for me. Thanks for the clarification. I might consider a serious home server, but from what you said, it would be better as a dedicated server. Ugh, well that's just life. Appreciate your time!
It would be a poor performance not because of insufficient power, but because of the increased energy use from the xeons. They excel at rendering tasks, yet since you're not using them for that, they don't add value.
