i was planning to sell a laptop when suddenly its screen stopped functioning. it worked perfectly with an external monitor, but the laptop couldn’t recognize its own display. after two months, the service confirmed the screen was faulty and linked it to a motherboard issue. they showed me a photo of a broken screen and explained it was internal damage. when i asked about the motherboard problem, they said the voltage-controlling chip was short—though in spanish they mentioned something similar. my concern is whether that chip should be visible or hidden, since it could cause future issues even if the laptop works now. they charged me $500 for repairs, and i’m hesitant to agree without more clarity.

They’re checking the voltage on the chip in a way that seems designed to confuse you. I’d just leave and find another place.

I'm not sure, I checked if the machine powers up (though I doubt it if that's the issue and I haven't heard anything recently). I've considered the same, but wanted to get some advice before making any changes.
