Hey there. Last Monday I was playing Counter-Strike Global Offensive and ended up with some rude players. After ignoring them and trying to focus on the game, one of them warned me I’d be cut off. Shortly after, I lost connection again. It seems my internet drops whenever my computer is online. I can temporarily use a VPN on my desktop, but still face lots of packet loss and eventual outages. I reached out to my ISP on Tuesday but haven’t gotten a response yet. I’ve tried resetting my IP with ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew multiple times, but nothing changes. I left the router off for over an hour, as some suggested, but it didn’t help. Now I’m really frustrated—can’t play games, watch videos, or do anything else on my PC. Any advice or solutions would be super helpful. (P.S. – My next plan is to buy a new router tomorrow, not offered by the ISP, and see if that fixes things.) Thanks in advance!

I would contact the ISP to ask for an IP address change or instructions. It's unclear what options are available, but if they can't help, switching ISPs might work. You could also try disconnecting all devices (unplugging them) overnight, as leaving them off longer increases your chances of receiving a new IP. Additionally, you might adjust settings in your router or network using a browser.

Are you certain the issue isn't on your end? If you're experiencing DDoS attacks, you'll likely notice it when your computer shuts down. Look into the task manager for any outgoing traffic. Avoid trying to modify your IP address—ISPs often renew their leases every 7 to 30 days.

Also block the person who thinks they're giving you doses and close Steam when you're not using it so no one can see your IP.

Based on my perspective, "Getting DDoS'd" is misleading. It's often a gaming myth. Unless you're a well-known streamer or managing services that few people notice, most ISPs now offer DDoS protection both inbound and outbound.

It's not very probable you were targeted personally. As mentioned, review your outgoing traffic. You might consider using GlassWire for deeper analysis and understanding the situation.
