Have you enjoyed Firewatch?
Firewatch is a small-scale indie title with an official launch on February 9th. Though opinions are already available, it hasn’t received many reviews yet. The game runs for roughly 5 to 6 hours, though you may extend the playtime if you explore more. It costs around 20 dollars or euros on Steam. The world is open but not vast; the focus is on storytelling rather than combat. I’ve been considering this game for some time and it’s one of the first major titles from 2016. I’m unsure if I’ll enjoy it, as it feels brief and many critiques highlight a disappointing or underwhelming ending. What are your thoughts on the game? Do you prefer games like this?
I'll check it out when I try it myself. Still, it seems clear we're after games with strong storytelling. Take Life is Strange as an example—it performed well commercially, received positive reviews, and people loved it. Such experiences are definitely worth trying, though finding the right balance is tough. You risk making the game too focused on mechanics or overshadowing the narrative. Many talented creators exist in storytelling, but few combine it seamlessly with gameplay. That's why the narrative-driven genre hasn't produced many standout titles yet.
