Hey, your family has observed a drop in internet performance lately. With the setup you mentioned—gaming PC, Xbox, two laptops, and four smartphones—it’s putting a lot of strain on the connection. You’re looking for a plan that balances speed and cost, staying within a $100 budget. Right now you’re managing two HD streams at once while background downloads occur, which is already quite heavy. Based on recent tests, speeds around 66.8 Mbps seem typical. If you want to optimize within your budget, consider a mid-range plan offering at least 50–70 Mbps, possibly with flexible data allowances. This should handle streaming and light gaming without breaking the bank.

Review Spectrum’s website for details. Currently, many locations provide 400 down with 20 up or 200 down with 10 up for $44.99 over 24 months. After that period, the 400/20 rate increases to $64.99 per month.

It's quite a copy-paste situation, isn't it? But honestly, around 200mbit should work, depending on how you're using it. You might also try a slower connection and set up quality of service for the streams and console.

Also consider checking if any of those gadgets are connected to Wi-Fi. If the device is outdated, it might just be the router struggling instead of the internet service itself.

I agree with @Alex Atkin UK about the TWC gateway. It seems likely it's an older 4x4 or 8x4 Docsis 3.0 model, probably lacking a dual-band wireless N AP. You might want to check if TWC offers another gateway or consider purchasing a modem-router combo or buying a gateway separately. Their customer equipment policy isn unclear. If needed, you could switch it to bridge mode for standard cable modems and then use a router that supports your current speed. Personally, I’ve used a 75/10 connection with Comcast and got upgraded to 150/10, which still handled multiple HD streams well. So it’s probably doable with the right setup depending on usage.

We’re dealing with a relatively recent Apple airport terminal. For the router, the parents will likely approve as long as it’s not running for more than 70 hours. Review your current plan.

If the router is recent, you should inspect the modem to identify its specific model.

The modem was just what they said on the TWC site. They didn’t mention anything about our internet speed. It seems they’re planning to upgrade to a new modem and a better plan.

The device should display a model number on the modem.
