Have you considered an Asus laptop and ways to cut down on energy consumption?
Hi everyone, just received a new Asus budget laptop, though it seems mostly built for gaming. It comes with 6 gigabytes of NVIDIA 3050, AMD 7 6900HX, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and 16 gigabytes of RAM. The operating system is Windows 10. Apart from simplifying the processor controls (moving to an advanced panel from the old GUI), reducing the frame rate to 30 helps in cutting power usage? We have some high-power devices at home like a 4K TV, a Samsung fridge with AI features, and limited UPS units, which caused a high electricity bill. It might be any of these factors, but we need to start somewhere.
We use RTSS in games as an overlay, so please let us know if lowering the frames is beneficial or not. Don’t worry about the slide show gaming; power consumption is our main concern first.
*NOTE: We also lower TV brightness at home, and that seems to help too.*
But why should you fret about the Power Bill? You already have devices that consume a lot of power, such as a 4K TV, a Samsung refrigerator, an UPS power supply, and a high-end laptop. That's completely normal.
It’s unlikely to make a big difference overall. For instance, in the UK you pay 28p per KWh, meaning a 100W charger could run your laptop fully for ten hours while using only 28p. The main power hogs are fridges, freezers, dryers, and cooking—things other than laptops and small devices. A standard OLED TV rarely exceeds 50 units per year. If you’re concerned about energy use, consider installing a smart meter and reviewing your energy insights to identify the biggest consumers.
