I considered sharing this inquiry with the forum community: How engaged are those who build their own routers or rely on third-party models for a compact 1U network device? This setup should include a DOCSIS 3.1 modem (like Mini-itx) and possibly a built-in router board, all housed in a 1U form factor. It needs to be quiet enough for use in living spaces or offices, powered by a single AC outlet. I usually keep two racks—one compact for quick deployment near internet entry and another larger for heavier equipment in a garage or basement. Having tried various components, I’ve realized a dedicated 1U modem/router is becoming essential. I’d appreciate hearing others’ thoughts and experiences on this topic. If anyone wants to purchase one, just let me know and we can proceed together.

I considered creating my own router, but honestly the routers and modems available in Germany work well enough. However, when it comes to fitting one into a rack, I prefer using something similar.

This approach isn't viable, so it should remain distinct.

I don't think it makes sense to place the modem in the same box; treat it as a separate unit. DOCSIS modems usually aren't sold in rack mounts—big companies often use dedicated fiber, so most components stay in racks. ITX in 1U feels restrictive; I’d probably go for a used prebuilt enclosure or similar, or a ready-made router system from vendors like Ubiquity, MikroTik, SonicWall, Untangle, or Fortinet.
