Hello everyone,

This is my first attempt at overclocking my i5 6600K and I’d appreciate the advice of those who have done it before. Let’s begin with the basics:

My system specs are clear:
- i5 6600K (as stated)
- MSI Z170A Tomahawk Mobo
- 16GB GSKILL 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
- 750W 80+ Gold power supply
- Powercolor Devil R9390x GPU
- 3TB HDD
- 250GB SSD
- Hyper 212X air cooler
- Room temperature around 25°C

I managed to push my i5 to 4.7GHz with a 1.330V core voltage. During AIDA64 for about an hour and fifteen minutes, temperatures stayed between 68-69°C. I also ran a few Cinebench tests to confirm stability without BSOD. Today I’ll test gaming performance to ensure it doesn’t crash. I’ve also reviewed some guides on overclocking Skylake; from what I understand, keeping voltages under 1.35V is acceptable for regular use. Some suggest even lower voltages are okay if the cooling stays adequate, though it might be pushing limits.

I’m curious if anything unusual has happened with my overclock and if there are any red flags I should notice.

Here are the links to a couple of stress test screenshots:

I’m still working on fine-tuning the voltage, but I want to confirm if this overclock is safe for everyday tasks. I’ll also run a thorough stress test in a few hours once I’m satisfied with my setup.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers,
J

anything up to 1.4v is acceptable provided your cores stay under 75C.
