Have questions about 13600k?
Hi! New here but i'm trying to ask for help with my 13600k. I play professional valorant and i want to get the most of my system. I've been seeing some gameplay online and see some of their 13600Ks reach around 400-500fps in game. mine reaches around 200-300 .I believe valorant is a cpu intensive game so I would assume it has something to do with my cpu. Here are my specs: i5 13600k MSI B660M-A Pro Zotac RTX 2070 Super 16gb ram 3600mhz (forgot the brand) 750w PSU ASUS TUF LC240 (my cooler is around 2 yrs old) I also noticed that i get thermal throttled in cb23 after the first pass. although the thermal readings do not throttle me in game. i tried fixing this by putting one of the settings in the bios from mode 12 to mode 10 (i forgot which setting) this drastically lowered performance to around 150-200 in game. i changed the setting back after some time. I put all the info i remember about here but if anybody needs more info i will be willing to provide it. Thanks in advance
Sure XMP is on? Also, give us your PL1 and PL2 info through Throttlestop . It shouldn't be on the default settings it should be in PL1=2 where the CPU is fully unlocked. Mind you this will get PRETTY DANG HOT, this is the tail end of the summer in northern hemisphere.
You can adjust the PL1 and PL2 time limits to their highest values. Another option is to use the MSI CPU Cooler Tuning feature, which also removes those restrictions. https://www.msi.com/blog/cpu-cooler-tuni...pu-coolers Related thread:
MSI's B660 boards sometimes have issues in practice. The water cooling (which should be unlimited) and tower cooler settings matched exactly on the board I tested—just like the one the OP mentioned—and it should automatically switch to water cooling. To disable PL1 and PL2, you need to manually adjust them to 4096W instead of using the default. It seems the problem might have been resolved in recent BIOS updates, but it doesn’t perform the same way as their Z-series boards.
Adjust your default fan settings so it reaches full speed at or below 70°C. Also ensure the pump operates at maximum capacity. Verify your case provides sufficient airflow. If you're still using the standard thermal paste, consider upgrading to a better alternative. Most generic pastes remain effective for over two years, whereas high-end options typically last five years or more and deliver improved performance. The 13600k model can handle up to 200W at peak temperatures; in warmer conditions, a 240 mm AIO may struggle to maintain higher clock speeds.
Hello! Thank you for your message. I confirmed PL1 and PL2 at 4096, which is the highest setting available in the BIOS. I also tweaked the fan curve. I’ll attempt a benchmark and post my findings here.
Game performs better in non-graphics-heavy scenarios with scores around 350-400, and slightly lower in graphics-heavy situations (200-300). My cb23 score has dropped noticeably, and I'm throttling more than usual. Since my room usually has AC set between 22-24°C, environmental factors seem unlikely. Also, I just replaced the thermal paste—any other adjustments you could try?
