Hello everyone, I purchased a pre-built gaming PC last year—it's my first one. It comes with 32GB of RAM, and I wanted to upgrade it to 64GB. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE X870 Eagle WIFI7. Using CPU-Z, I found the RAM part number: CMH32GX5M2B6400C36. I attached the image below.

The problem is that this RAM model runs at 4800 MT/s but my PC isn't syncing properly. When I install all four RAM sticks on the motherboard, it recognizes 64GB but the lights aren't in sync and it only runs at 3600 MT/s. Is this normal? If I enable XMP and run both at 1.40V, will that cause any issues? And if I don’t enable XMP and use them at 3600 MT/s, could that affect performance long-term? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

They might differ in version and revision even if they share a model name. This means parts can vary, and specs may not match. If the older unit operates at a higher voltage than intended, it could lead to long-term damage. You might need to manually lower the voltage so the new RAM matches the old one, though this can cause instability. Using two 32GB sticks from the same set would be preferable. Alternatively, running all four sticks without XMP might work better. Do you require 64GB? Typically, 32GB suffices for a gaming PC.

The official AMD documentation states that 3600 is the maximum achievable speed for four sticks, which likely explains why your board set it to that limit. However, it's feasible to reach significantly higher speeds using four single-rank sticks. XMP probably won't function well, but you could turn it on and manually select a lower frequency. Ideally, you'd opt for the lower voltage option from the two available.

4 DIMMS on AM5 with modern memory controllers isn't ideal. Recent BIOS updates have improved performance and unlocked larger capacities, though actual speed gains are usually limited to around 4800MT/s.

You're using 4 sticks, but they perform well. Running with 2 sticks seems more effective.
