Recently I attempted to install an SSD with my existing HDD, but the computer froze and I had to remove the new drive. After a few days, it started working again. Now it freezes once more; the mouse functions but clicking is impossible. I switched to recovery mode and ran sfc, but it failed. Using command prompt and Notepad, I verified my files were intact and they loaded properly. I quickly backed up important data and used DiskPart. It lists disk 0 as 1TB with free space. The system boots normally at the login screen and runs for a short time before freezing again. BIOS checks show stable temperatures around 35°C. RAM is 16GB, both CPUs are under a year old, and the hard drive is similar age. I installed Fraps before the issue began, which caused the first crash while playing Minecraft. I’m currently performing a system restore from the first day of this month, before installing additional software needed for my IT training role. This might be related. Any advice would be appreciated. HD Sentinel reported 100% health prior to this event.

System restore appeared to resolve the issue. After running sfc, corrupt files were fixed. In Task Manager, the Windows module installer was using full disk space, but that disappeared once sfc completed. You might want to try DISM as well.
