Hello. I've been using Devuan GNU/Linux 5 (Debian Testing) for the past year on my desktop without any issues, everything seemed to be working perfectly and it still very much is. Recently, with the release of Debian 12 and it's derivatives soon to follow suit, I wanted to move back onto the testing branch to continue staying up to date with security and newer software features. However, when I tried to simply change the release channel that my system pulls from, and got a 1300 package update with a newer kernel (6.1 to 6.3), I've been getting met with "dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-image-6.3" or other similar issues. I've tried multiple solutions from guides that range from 1-10 years out of date on the various Stack Exchange forums but nothing has worked. I know it seems like I should understand this stuff more, but I have had very few issues that ever required troubleshooting, this OS has given me nothing but stability and performance especially for how high-end the hardware is. All I'm trying to do is move to my distributions testing branch (technically still on it, just wanting to move to what will become the testing branch in the future weeks). But I keep getting left with kernel installation packages that are left half-configured and panic whenever I try to boot from them. Data security and backups aren't an issue, all of my important stuff from projects, games and personal data are on separate drives. So it's not that hard to reinstall my OS, though I'd prefer not to in the end as "muh settings". I've replicated this error for the purposes of showing on this topic, I tried installing the XanMod kernel instead of trying to do a full dist-upgrade. Here is all that I've done: Ignore the firmware issues warning of no Wi-Fi firmware, I use ethernet. One theory is the Xone driver which is meant for my Xbox controller, I STG if that's the issue... ########################################################################################################################################################################### okkvltisch@supreme-overlord : ~ $ wget -qO - https://dl.xanmod.org/archive.key | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /us r/share/keyrings/xanmod-archive-keyring.gpg [sudo] password for okkvltisch: okkvltisch@supreme-overlord : ~ $ echo 'deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/xanmod-archive-keyring.gpg] htt p://deb.xanmod.org releases main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xanmod-release.list deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/xanmod-archive-keyring.gpg] http://deb.xanmod.org releases main okkvltisch@supreme-overlord : ~ $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install linux-xanmod-x64v3 Get:1 http://deb.xanmod.org releases InRelease [2,087 B] Hit:2 https://repo.steampowered.com/steam stable InRelease Hit:3 https://download.vscodium.com/debs vscodium InRelease Get:4 http://deb.xanmod.org releases/main amd64 Packages [59.4 kB] Get:5 http://download.opensuse.org/repositorie...an_Testing InRelease [1,551 B] Hit:6 https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com stable InRelease Hit:7 https://repo.nordvpn.com/deb/nordvpn/debian stable InRelease Hit:8 http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus InRelease Get:9 http://deb.xanmod.org releases/main i386 Packages [15.2 kB] Hit:10 http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-updates InRelease Hit:11 http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security InRelease Fetched 78.2 kB in 1s (75.0 kB/s) Reading package lists... Ignored the issue with the Xone driver. Removed it via its uninstall script, then successfully installed the XanMod kernel. Avoid building or installing drivers manually. Appreciate the community support during tough times.

You're right to note the delay in security updates on the testing branch. It usually takes around six months before they're available. For the most recent features, consider using Sid instead. The system remains fairly stable, while experimental branches can be unpredictable.
