I just powered on my PC and noticed the 2.5GB Ethernet port on my ASUS TUF B550M motherboard isn’t working. At first I thought the cable might be damaged, but I tried using a USB to Gigabit adapter and it functioned perfectly. Any advice?

It might be possible the cable is too damaged to support 2.5GbE yet manage gigabit speeds. If so, it should still work at gigabit when plugged into the motherboard. Have you attempted reinstalling the Ethernet drivers from Asus’ site?

I just realized it wasn't functioning properly a short while ago.

Check if the adapter appears in Device Manager. Open Network Adapters, verify its presence. Press Windows + X and select Control Panel, then Advanced System Settings. Navigate to Computer Configuration and check the details.

It functions similarly in both instances.

Typically, if no cable is found, it means the connected device is not receiving power, the cable is faulty, or there’s an issue with the network interface card. Make sure you remove and reinstall the NIC drivers at least.

You can achieve this by updating only the necessary components without retaining outdated versions, keeping everything in sync efficiently.
