I was in Red Dead 2 when my computer crashed and made a loud popping sound. There was no smell of smoke, and my PSU seemed okay after checking the CPU—it looks fine. When I try to start up, the lights come on but the fans don’t spin, and nothing else happens. It’s a custom build with a Corsair 850 PSU and an ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Ti TUF OC. My system has an Intel Core i9-10900 CPU, and I haven’t seen any other issues.
Pop usually refers to an electrical component such as a capacitor, unless the sound came from speakers. Do you have a PSU tester or integrated graphics to check the power supply or see if it works without the GPU? The 10900 should include integrated graphics, but I’m not sure if your board has the necessary connectors; you didn’t mention the motherboard model.
It was a pop, not a click. If it were a click, it might mean a relay in the power supply unit was triggered by one of the protection circuits.
sorry to pop your hope but ye it is usually a cap (big ones in psu or those tiny ones in mb, cpu, gpu.. ), resistors, mosfets...could be anything. since no smell or visible burns it could be those tiny ones. i would test most delicate to less delicate in another system one by one (cpu - ram - mb - gpu finally psu). your storages are fine beleive me.
