Hardware configuration issues Mixed data locations Storage interface confusion
You're planning to purchase the MSI PRO H610M-E motherboard. The specs mention that SATA5 won't function with an NVMe SSD, but the board only has four SATA ports. This means you can't use a 256GB NVMe SSD in two 1TB units together. You should stick to SATA-based drives only.
Hey there! Here’s a quick summary: The forums mention some installation challenges. You won’t be able to use all four SATA drives and NVME cards without an expansion card. It seems confusing since they label ports as 5,6,7,8, but likely that refers to the PCIe lanes. Make sure you have the right adapter for the X1 Gen 3 slot.
Thanks! I believed SATA ports begin at 0-3, but I’m not sure. Also, does the Lexar NM620 connect properly to an NVMe slot?
The ports are labeled from 5 onward, not 0 to 3. The documentation specifies that using an NVMe SSD will disable SATA5, so SATA ports should remain functional for your setup.
Great observation by Tan. In theory it could function. It may not, but it should work. On the other hand, you might be able to combine a lot of storage. A 2TB SSD costs about 130 $, while a new 4TB hard drive is around 70 $ (or a refurbished 10TB model for 130$).
