i wanna first apologize if this is a stupid question. if a mobo ram support says "up to 64gb" with 4 dimm slots, that means each slot only supports up to 16gb right? if i put in a 64gb stick in one slot, the mobo would not boot up right? or am i wrong? thanks.

Certain boards may fail to start, while others can boot but only utilize the RAM the board and processor support. In some situations the stated limit reflects the biggest hardware versions ever made, not a strict boundary. So… it varies.

The specifications wouldn't clearly show the maximum support for each dimming slot.
