Hardcore mode in Minecraft is a challenging setting designed for experienced players.
Hopefully someone can assist you. Your son enjoys playing Minecraft and wants to activate hardcore mode. We're using the Java version and have configured a local server. I've modified the level.dat file with the hardcore setting enabled. I also adjusted the difficulty in that file. When using the server commands, I encountered an invalid argument error. In-game options display hardcore difficulty, but the hearts indicate a hardcore mode. Upon dying, it offers to either let you watch or restart, similar to what happens in hardcore mode—except when you choose to watch, it simply restarts the game. Any suggestions on what might be incorrect? Your system runs Windows 10 with Minecraft 1.17.1.
Does it bring you back as if nothing changed, allowing you to do everything normally? It feels logical that it restarts you, but now you’re just watching and can’t actually act. P.S. It’s been a while since I played Minecraft and haven’t tried version 1.17 yet—things might have shifted.
For your own Minecraft server, I strongly suggest using MC Server Soft – a free Minecraft server wrapper UI for Windows.
