It's not necessary; the service is secure (developed by LogMeIn, creators of LastPass, etc.). There are cleaner alternatives—perfect for playing around without needing to forward ports.

Hamachi isn't likely to harm your computer, but it could affect your internet connection. Was that the issue you experienced before?
