Halt – Windows 7 automatic update feature is inactive.
Find a stable version of Windows 7 without automatic driver updates. Avoid the latest releases that keep changing and causing issues.
Take the update yourself—don’t allow Windows to handle it for you. You’ll receive the right driver on the first try. Otherwise, your changes and adjustments will be needed. If you truly wish to halt all Windows updates (except for Office products), you can try WinAero Tweaker.
I installed the drivers myself repeatedly, but they keep updating. I don’t know how to disable them. Note: I’ve left the Wi-Fi unplugged while working, but plugging it back in and moving away causes it to reset to a single VGA adapter. Updated April 16, 2018 by Kamjam21xx
You shouldn't need extra steps to prevent Windows 7 from downloading and installing updates. Are the driver updates handled via Windows Update, Nvidia's GeForce Experience, or another method? I'm not sure if Windows 7 automatically updates third-party display drivers, and it doesn't seem to be trying to update or replace the older Nvidia driver I'm using. It might be a setting in the Nvidia control panel if you're using their drivers. Alternatively, you can adjust your Windows Update preferences to one of the three options that don't automatically install anything.
