Hello everyone, I just upgraded my old 1080 to a 7800xt. PC runs just fine in every game I tested, however in CoD i only get 100-110 fps with everything on low (1440p). The game runs just fine but I ve seen people run the same game with 220+ fps. I have a 3700x which is not the latest CPU but I didn't expect it to bottleneck the system that hard. The CPU runs at 50-60% utilization whenever Im playing. Nothing is overheating and nothing is working at 100%. Complete set up: CPU: AMD RYZEN 3700X GPU: 7800XT POWERCOLOR RED DEVIL RAM: 2X 8 GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 3600 mhz MOBO: B450-GAMING-PRO-CARBON-AC SAMSUNG SSD 860 EVO 1 TB PSU: CORSAIR RM750. I run the CoD benchmark and it gives me a reading of 99% CPU bottleneck and 1% GPU. Is there any way of improving the situation or the only way to fix this is by getting a better CPU? Thank you in advance.

Consider boosting performance by pushing the system to 4.5-4.6g allcore with a 1.4v boost (no liquid cooling). A 5800x3d would likely cost about $200-250 used.

Adjusting the CPU speed can benefit some users, but overall your processor isn’t powerful enough for this game. As discussed earlier, the 5800X3D is the top choice without needing a new board or RAM upgrade.

I was thinking about a 7600 but it would be expensive—about 280 for the CPU, 200 for the motherboard, and 100 for DDR5 RAM sticks plus shipping. I believe I’ll go with the 5800X3D instead. Thanks for your assistance!

it’s likely a CPU bottleneck, even if you don’t notice it. Run tests on each core while using afterburner overlay, but keep in mind you’ll need to spot spikes. Either way, it’s clear from the test results (msi overlay example) that it was obvious.

Which CoD titles are you interested in? Your processor performs better than average for most CoD games. Check out Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 GPU/CPU test – around 130 FPS on DX 12 Extreme. See Call of Duty Modern Warfare performance – roughly 144 FPS on Max setting.

It's your CPU. I moved from 3700X to 5600X and experienced huge performance improvements even with my old GTX 1070. The IPC boost from the Ryzen 3000 to the 5000 series is incredible. Just pick any Ryzen 5000 and it should work well. The 5700X offers the best value, but the 5800X3D will really push your GPU to its limits. On this setup, you might consider lowering the memory speed to 3200MHz and manually setting the infinity fabric to 1600MHz. This could potentially add a bit more speed, but it won't be sufficient to fully leverage the new GPU.
