Guidelines and regulations for your YouTube video.
Hi. I tried looking up information, but didn’t find a clear answer. I recently played DayZ and met someone who seemed very confused, so I recorded it for my friends. Now I received a message on YouTube asking me to remove the video because I don’t have his permission to feature him, or else he might take legal action. I’ve already replied simply “Good luck,” which feels pretty vague. I was wondering if showing someone’s character in a game really requires their consent? Since it’s just his character and voice, and his identity wasn’t used improperly, I don’t see a need for permission. Kasper S.
He seems unlikely, but you may wish to review the YouTube guidelines while skimming.
In real-life videos, the individual's face needs to be obscured, yet it seems unnecessary to mute their voice since it shouldn't be a concern. Additionally, the person is responsible for sharing their voice in a game knowing the risk involved.
Disregard him, you don’t need approval—at worst it might just get removed. If I were you, I’d just upload the video anyway.
I question whether he’ll succeed through that route. The worst outcome could be removal from YouTube. There are changes in how you’ve shown him that the presentation feels disrespectful. Still, it’s probably just YouTube deciding to take it down. People often say almost anything on Twitter and get away with it, even after their remarks appear on major news outlets. One gamer threatened me with bans for claiming to know the developers. I just hoped for success and apologized for missing the screenshot.
