Originally it would have required all four units, but that was based on the idea you could split any x16 slot on the board. Alright, I'll review the documentation next time I can. This build is swapping my existing configuration—three separate machines (Work, Play, personal side business) with five monitors each—and my entertainment system. Each PC has two TVs in my flat, completing the whole setup. It's a bit overkill, but I've used this for years and it functions well. Unfortunately, keeping three different hardware systems isn't fun anymore. I'm aiming to consolidate everything onto one PC with profiles for each old machine and a NAS.

You’re probably thinking about linking 17 monitors together? It’s usually simpler than trying to manage a single all-in-one setup, and problems tend to hit you hard instead of quietly breaking everything.

When others mention it out loud it seems a bit absurd, but I prefer using a lot of screen space per machine. I guess that makes sense, even though I’m not the most tech-savvy PC user—I mainly work with web code, which is why I’m here. If someone says it’s not worth it, I won’t debate it. Is there any way to combine it effectively so it makes sense?

Well if I make sense of the situation... perhaps instead of maintaining three separate systems for "Work, Play, and personal side business" each with five monitors, you could consolidate everything onto a single machine. That way, you'd still have flexibility with OS drives if needed. For media tasks, it would be simpler. It's just my take—though many people here are drawn to the idea of a unified setup based on Linus's experiments. He's shown it can work and even provide entertainment value, but in reality it would be very difficult to use and probably not worth the effort. Some setups required major hardware changes, often using high-end pro servers that cost more than multiple premium machines.

Having three separate independent OS drives is the easiest option. It avoids using bootloaders and might be faster because you don’t need to switch setups or worry about distractions. You just shut down what you’re working on and restart, which usually feels much more convenient.

Yes, you'd need to adjust the operating system drive manually.

Yes, simply install all drives and choose your preferred one in the BIOS boot menu.

Sure, that should work with the HAF XB Evo I'm using. I'll definitely need that PCIe x1 SATA card I found, as most of my internal SATA slots are already occupied to accommodate the extra drives.
