The fans should handle it, just keep noise and temperatures in check. If the noise isn't an issue, increase it until you're satisfied with the temperatures.

Your fans will be fine, just balance noise and temps. If noise doesn't bother you, bump it up till you are comfortable about the temps.
I was concerned it would shorten their lifespan considerably.

Perhaps, though I've never come across reports about GPU fans failing, you can easily discover more online.
