GTX 970 Strix Overclock Help
In my setup I have only one intake and one exhaust fan, which isn't ideal for cooling, but I built the rig myself. My card operates at 1253 factory OC (Asus GTX970 Strix) and can handle up to 1175mV max voltage. Based on your setup, it seems there might be an issue with the GPU itself. The temperature is around 55°C during idle and about 62-64°C while gaming. My CPU runs at 36°C with the stock fan, and the motherboard is around 27°C when idle. I considered adjusting the idle fan speed to around 15% to lower temperatures, but I’m unsure how to do it without altering the original settings. Try using another program like msi afterburner to verify everything works properly. Even at 55°C it’s still within normal limits for GPUs, though it’s a bit higher than typical cards with 10°C above average. Idle temperatures shouldn’t exceed 40°C on standard cards running at 20% fan speed when idle. Since the GTX970 doesn’t turn its fans on, we might see slightly elevated temps, but keep an eye on them.
Both fans are spinning, try running it with the case side panel off.
My Strix 970 operates at 48c, but during the Heaven benchmark it reaches 66 (I set the fans to full speed for the test), while gaming stays near 60.
The sweet spot on the Asus Strix 970 is around +150, but there are models hitting 1500+ and the 970s with overclock potential are among the lowest.
Running the Heaven benchmark at maximum settings for about five minutes will show that pushing above 1400 drops the score.
Overclocking programs can boost the Strix 970 to about +75mv, which only adds another 15mhz, not worth it.
