GTX 970 overclocking may cause issues with the NVIDIA driver or card during game exit.
Hey guys. So Ive finally decided to take the plunge and try oc'ing my already factory OC'd EVGA GTX 970 SSC. Ive put it on a very slight OC up to 1500 Mhz and about 3900 MHZ on the memclock (for my card this is +120 and +200).
It makes a bit of an impact in benchmarks (about 8%) and works fine in all games with no artifacts but when I exit from some games (Arkham Knight specifically) it will hang and then nvidia will say the driver has crashed and recovered. I have to reset after this because then if I go to another game my gsync doesnt work.
The card isnt over heating because MSI Afterburner says im not even hitting 65 as I have a very aggressive fan curve.
Ive tried bumping my OC down to under 1480 (which it should be able to do no problem) and reinstalling drivers (tried the 3 most recent from Nvidia)
My question is does this sound like an unstable OC? Should I be worried this is damaging my card? Note I havent added ANY voltage to it as in MSI Afterburner my card bios have it locked out.
Thanks for your help guys.
This occurs occasionally in Fallout 3. Are you using Windows 10? When I start my game, it displays a warning about the game not being optimized for Windows 10 and possibly not running well, which I usually blamed on that. I don’t believe it harms your card; it seems like the drivers are having issues. Arkham Knight wasn’t considered a strong port, so this likely points to a driver problem. Does this issue also affect other games or is it specific to this one?

It can only be one of two possibilities.
1.) Overclocking is unstable
2.) Bad drivers
Attempt to install older versions of Nvidia's GPU drivers, then overclock to a 1500 core clk and 3900 memory clock to check if the issue continues.
