GTX 970 experiencing crashes alongside voltage rise issues
Yesterday I attempted to overclock my EVGA 970 SC, but encountered an issue. Initially, my core clock appears to be quite low for an OC (+120MHz), which might just be a coincidence. My memory is set at +512MHz and functions normally in Heaven Benchmark. But whenever I try to increase the voltage to boost the clock speed, the system crashes regardless of whether I keep the stable setting. Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem?
Verify the card's boost potential with a +120/+512 OC setting. If it reaches around 1400-1500mhz, it's acceptable. Consider reducing the memory clock—this is unusually high for a 970 chip and would push it over 8000mhz, which is quite extreme. A 7500mhz boost is reasonable, while an 8000mhz boost is rare.
you should verify what frequency the card actually reaches with a +120/+512 OC. if it climbs to about 1400-1500mhz then it's fine... try reducing the memory clock. that’s quite high for a 970. +512 would exceed 8000mhz and that’s unusual... 7500mhz is a solid overclock for memory. +8000mhz is rare. as i mentioned, this overclock appears stable, but it crashes when you increase the voltage, which is puzzling.
You should verify what the card gains with a +120/+512 OC. If it reaches about 1400-1500mhz, it's fine. Consider lowering the memory clock—it’s quite high for a 970 and would exceed 8000mhz, which is unusual. A 7500mhz overclock is solid, while going to +8000mhz is rare. This overclock appears stable, but voltage increases cause crashes, which is puzzling. Your memory is already extremely high.
