GTX 1080 cannot be overclocked following the Kraken G12 installation.
I own a FE 1080 that I chose to liquid cool due to high temperatures. My card maintained a consistent OC of +200 core and +400 memory at 120% power. I opted for a Kraken G12 for easier installation. After setting this up, my temperatures dropped significantly, but whenever I tried to overclock the card, it would crash after just a few minutes of heavy load.
My build includes:
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv
I7 7700k @4.5ghz
GTX 1080 FE (Kraken G12 +G40)
ASUS PRIME Z270-A
32GB Corsair Vengeance 2133
2x Samsung EVO 250gb SSD in RAID-0
Corsair RMx 750
I’ve been working on fixing this since I changed coolers, but so far I haven’t seen any improvement. I’m reaching out to forums for advice, hoping someone can explain what’s happening because it doesn’t make much sense.
so even with a tiny overclock it still crashes when under stress?
you mention temperatures are okay. Are those GPU and VRM readings actually getting close to their limits?
this might seem like a trivial question, but is the fan really running at full speed on the G12?
also, if you switch your 7700K back to default settings, can you then reapply the same overclock again?
My card lacks a VRM sensor so I'm uncertain about that. After about an hour of load, I reach 70°C on the core. The fan is running both on the card and the radiator. Even when setting my CPU to default, I still can't overclock. The temperatures aren't what I expected, but it's better than before.
