GTX 1060 overclocking inquiries (100% voltage, temperature limits, maximum memory frequency)
I received a new Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM and applied their OC software. I'm wondering if I should raise the memory capacity beyond 4600, as I worry about damaging the VRM from high temperatures and can't accurately measure them. Should I also enable the "GPU Over Voltage" at full capacity? What are the safe temperature limits? Currently, I have set it to 2100 cores with a boost to 2300 due to Nvidia's GPU Boost 3.0, memory at 4600, temperatures ranging between 76 and 81°C during full load, and fan speeds between 60 and 70%.
You won't put your cards VRM at high risk unless you significantly raise the power limit. Because this requires a custom BIOS, feel free to tweak the software settings—there are many built-in safeguards now, and the card will automatically reduce speed and voltage if the real current goes beyond a set threshold.
Please let me know what you'd like to discuss regarding the GPU Voltage.
