I sold my 6700xt card and upgraded to a 1060 with 3GB RAM. I started W10, everything worked fine—no problems. I booted a VM through Oracle VirtualBox and was able to run for about ten minutes. Then the host’s video froze, and I heard a specific sound. Spotify continued playing. The 1060 registered at 0x in BIOS but wasn’t recognized by the NVIDIA drivers. I ran hwinfo64, but got nothing. I tried DDU again and still had no results. I’m confused—this must have damaged my card, but I don’t know why. Could a VM be causing it to fail? From a 6700xt to a 1060 with the same settings, except 3D acceleration enabled and 256MB VRAM for the VM, I didn’t notice any critical issues. I can’t figure out the cause.

It looks like the card might be defective. Unless you attempted to update the VBIOS, there should be no reason a VM would encounter problems. I'll test it in a bare metal environment, perhaps on another machine just to be safe.

I value the responses and the tale shifts unexpectedly this morning. I attempted last night, DDU, bare metal, but nothing registered. Even swapping slots on the board... This morning, just five minutes ago, I powered it on and it showed up, detected, working... No changes made. I’m thankful it functions but even more puzzled. Issues that vanish on their own seem harder to handle than those you can’t fix.

I plan to examine this card thoroughly both physically and digitally, focusing closely on its details, and I won’t share any information about what happened.
