GTA5 crashing
GTA5 crashing
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an ongoing issue that's been happening for more than a month. Whenever I play GTA5, it crashes to the desktop. It worked perfectly for 28 hours of gameplay, but now it keeps crashing every time. I've reached out to Rockstar support, who guided me through all the troubleshooting steps. I checked that everything was up to date on my PC, drivers, and software. I monitored temperatures, replaced the CPU cooler, tested RAM multiple times, and stressed both CPU and GPU—all tests passed. The game was installed via Steam, so I'm trying to run it that way now. I'm unsure what's causing the problem anymore. I'm currently preparing a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro. After the issues began, I also did a fresh install of Windows 11, but the same problems occurred. I'm considering reverting back to Windows 10 because I prefer it more. Any advice would be appreciated. I initially thought it might be related to RAM, but now I'm not so sure. I do have a copy of a launcher log file and the MINSINFO from before when I wiped my PC last night—could that help? Thanks.

Please let me know if anything was omitted. Thanks.
Follow the instructions carefully, reading until the end.
Disconnect from the internet.
Remove all GPU drivers using DDU (clean your system and do not restart).
Uninstall every processor (make sure it’s 16 on your device; when prompted for restart, click no and continue uninstalling all processors) via Device Manager.
Restart the PC to BIOS mode, turn off AMD FTPM and secure boot, save changes and exit, then return to BIOS, flash to BIOS version F37 or reflash F35, after updating BIOS go back to BIOS, set default or optimized settings, disable CSM, enable Above 4G Decoding and Resizable bar (these options won’t appear unless CSM is off), don’t enable XMP yet, then save and exit.
Power on the system and install the latest chipset driver (version should be 4.03.xx), then restart.
Install the newest NVIDIA driver, update display ID and resize bar if available, reboot, and then reconnect to the internet.
Perform these actions offline until you restart after installing the chipset driver, and consider rebooting BIOS afterward to apply XMP settings (and any previous configurations).
Prepare the necessary files before proceeding to step 1, and follow the steps in order.
Execute cmd as administrator, then run chkdsk /x /f /r, followed by sfc /scannow.
Check for Windows updates and install them unless they are optional; ensure the GPU is connected via a single PCIe cable per slot (use the main cable, not the branches/splits).
I'll attempt this tonight. My main concern is the power cable. I have an 8-pin connector but no matching 8-pin cable. I only have 2-4 pin cables that connect together. These are the only two connectors on the cables, and they come directly from the PSU (hardwired, not removable). I'll review the rest today so I can try it tonight when I get home. Thanks for the assistance!
Ok, so I did the steps you recommend. Only had a few issues
not able to uninstall AMD Chipset from within safe mode, so I did it when I booted to windows, rebooted then continued to reinstall them
not able to disable secure boot in the first part of the BIOS step ( not available to do so) I did the other steps and disabled it when I did the 4G and resizable BAR and CSM disable
When I ran the scan now... it came up with an issue.......ONEDrive, I had removed that on purpose! that was it for issues with the scan
My GPU power cable is an 8 pin that goes from psu to the first 8 pin connector. there is a tale that goes off of that I will attempt to draw it out
[]----------------#--------# it goes PSU-------Plug-----Plug. The plugs are in line, and I used the first one and nothing is on the second one
I then downloaded Destiny 2 so I could try and see if it was GTA5 that is causing the issues or not. I Downloaded it for an hour or so, then I launched the game, Steam says I played for 107min. Which was about right, I set my stopwatch and it was Hour 40 min when I had to stop playing and go to bed. The game ran fine, temps were good on GPU and CPU. Everything ran as I expected it should ( like good) Tonight I am going to test GTA5 and see if that crashes. If it does...Back to Destiny 2 to test again. Thanks for the help and I will report back what I find out tonight
