I'm dealing with a frustrating issue in GTA V where after just a short while of playing, I encounter these pesky texture problems. Also, I recently purchased a GTX 1060 3GB and since then this has become an issue. Previously, I had a GTX 950 which didn't cause this problem. I'm currently playing with high textures, but the frame rate is around 70-80fps.

I've attempted a clean driver update, but it didn't resolve anything. Underclocking the GPU also didn't help. I need assistance!

I usually don't have a TGI, and this might be random. Sometimes I can play for an hour without it, but other times it's really annoying.

I'm attaching an image to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem or if this is just my issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rest of the specs:
8GB DDR3
i5-4590T CPU
My HDD is a 160GB old drive because my previous 500GB one was failing. I got this as a temporary fix from an unknown source. According to Hard Disk Sentinel, it's running at 100/100, but it makes strange noises. This drive might be failing too. Could this be contributing to the problem?

I also have a 64GB SSD.

Any help is really needed.

It might be the drive. You could perform a test that repeatedly accesses various files from a drive to check its performance, though I’m not very familiar with those applications.

Your CPU base frequency is 2.0 GHz and it can be increased to about 2.6 GHz when playing 4-core games (like GTA 5). For optimal performance in those settings, it's suggested that your CPU reaches around 3.2 GHz, similar to an i5-3470. Consider adjusting all your settings to the ones listed below and observe the results. These are the best configurations for GTA 5 to maintain high FPS without sacrificing visual quality. Try applying all settings at OFF or Normal first to check if high values are causing texture loading problems. If the issue disappears, proceed with the recommended settings and see if it resolves the problem.

Lowering your HDD might be another factor, but starting with a reduced graphic setting is simpler to test. If the problem persists only in GTA 5, it likely points to your graphics settings being too high.

These are just a few troubleshooting tips. Be patient while working through these adjustments. Your GPU is suitable for GTA 5, but running at a low CPU clock with very high graphics settings can lead to difficulties.

Thanks, I'll adjust the settings. Tried other games like Subnautica and Crysis 1, but they didn't work well. I only played Subnautica once and it crashed with a message saying Subnautica.exe stopped working. Crysis has strange sounds and stutters. If the issue is with the HDD, that's possible since HD Sentinel says it's fine, but I'm getting a new one anyway due to storage problems. Also, the GPU seems to be from a major brand—could that be the problem? Thanks!

Welcome. This might indicate a hardware problem if several games are crashing, causing texture or stuttering issues, strange noises, and you noted your GTX 950 didn’t have this problem. What were your Subnautica settings at the time of the crash? Did the HDD you had is new or used? Is the GTX 1060 a 3GB model, new or used? When did you have the GTX 950 in your PC, and was that HDD also present?

Since Manli is manufactured in Hong Kong, I’m not sure about its reliability. It might be of lower quality, but that doesn’t automatically mean it’s faulty or a bad GPU. Any GPU should function properly from the start.

So I changed the settings based on the images you shared, played for about 20 minutes. I'm not sure if it gives enough gameplay. In the city performance, the drop happens minute by minute. The FPS stays above 60, but it doesn't really feel like that speed. Maybe I'm wrong. When I go to the countryside, things return to normal. I think a new 500gb HDD might help me see what's happening. Subnautica crashed just randomly because I was adjusting the settings, but games like War Thunder and Dauntless seem to run smoothly even at max settings. What do you recommend?

This is completely normal in GTA 5. It's just how the game is. Countryside fps will be higher than fps in the city.
Are you still getting the weird textures? If not, you're on the right track.
Does Subnautica crash on the lowest settings? If not, this is a good thing and I will give you the best settings to raise them to.
Is the HDD you currently are using new or used?
Did you get the Manli GTX 1060 3GB new or used? If you got it new, how long have you had it now?
When you had the GTX 950 in your PC, was this HDD you are using now also in your PC?

I understand there are differences in FPS between GTA V in country and city. I noticed it was above 60 but didn’t feel impressive.
I have removed Subnautica.
It was a temporary fix I got from a local source, which might seem odd, but I acquired it from a flea market. This doesn’t mean I obtained the rest there.
The graphics card:
I purchased it from a seller on a used hardware forum, but it was new. I believe that when it was difficult to remove the display caps, it confirms I received a brand new unit. I bought the 1060 last Thursday, without upgrading right away.
The 950:
I bought the 950 as a used card last June and sold it at the end of April.
I owned the 950 with a failing 500GB drive that I eventually discarded. However, I recently replaced it with an 160GB drive in the past two weeks while still using the 950. That was about 1.5 months ago.
Except for some normal performance issues in GTA at most settings, I didn’t notice anything unusual.
My main goal is to determine if my GPU is the problem and would appreciate a quick answer, ideally within a week, since I have a two-week return window ending next Thursday. I’m just trying to find a solution because GTA V bothers me.
I’ve also run Unigine benchmark, which showed high frame rates even at higher settings without texture errors.
Thank you for your assistance.

The 60 fps rate doesn't quite convey a sense of grandeur. It becomes more impressive when it reaches around 80-90, after which it feels lag-free and exceptionally smooth. This isn't the right approach. Subnautica is a visually appealing title. Its graphics are not only attractive but also highly engaging. It seems your settings might be too high.

Wow, this isn't ideal, even if it's a temporary fix. Setting up an HDD from a local flea market isn’t something I’d ever contemplate. You might want to replace that device right away. I suggest at least purchasing an HDD with a minimum of 7200 RPM. Personally, I’d recommend Western Digital, Seagate, or Toshiba. You can get a Toshiba 500GB HDD for $23.00 on Amazon, delivered within 2-7 days for free. A 1TB Seagate Barracuda costs $39.00, while a 2TB Western Digital HDD is $47.50.

Was the box sealed? If it wasn’t, it likely wasn’t new. The condition of the display caps remains uncertain.

A 950 is a decent GPU. I wouldn’t expect poor performance with the current settings and minor adjustments.

Welcome. If I were facing a similar situation and could return that GPU, I’d be confident in doing so. Not because it’s weak, but because it works well. You could invest that amount in a more reliable brand. I don’t dismiss that brand outright; it’s just something I’d choose if you had the opportunity. Once the return window closes, you’ll lose that option. It’s about feeling secure. Owning a higher-quality device gives you confidence knowing what you’re getting.

Good luck with your decision.

Ughh, I got the GPU at a cheaper price than others, and it looked really new. It was shiny, the PCIe was shiny, etc. If I return it, I'm not getting anything better—just another 3GB one that had been used for years. I can't buy a new one right now because I don't have the money and the "power." I'm 14. I'm making my own money. But I'll try to write to the guy and see what happens. Thanks.
