GTA V PC
GTA V PC
I received a GTA V PC as a gift from a friend who wants to play online with someone. After installing and launching the game, it appears fine but there’s noticeable screen flickering and performance issues. I’ve used v-sync off all settings on low, yet the problem persists. My PC specs are: Intel G3258 @3.20GHz, Asus Strix edition 960, 2GB RAM, 6GB DDR3. I’ve watched YouTube videos showing similar builds running at high settings and playing smoothly. I’m unsure what might have gone wrong with my system. I updated the graphics drivers to the latest version from NVIDIA (version 359.06). After restarting, the game still lagged and flickered. I tried different settings—ultra, high, medium, low—but frame rates stayed around 40-50fps. I’m confident the installation wasn’t the issue since FPS didn’t change with quality. Could someone assist me and suggest possible fixes? Thanks!
It's the CPU, according to Amazingasian. My setup used the same CPU before switching to an i7 because I experienced unplayable frame rates and stuttering in games such as GTA. Look at your GPU usage—it’s being strained by the CPU. Certain titles might run well on that CPU, but if they’re extremely CPU-intensive like GTA or BF, the CPU will likely lag behind.
A 4460 is sufficient. Using 8GB or more RAM would be preferable over 6GB.
The 4460 i5 seems to be one of the more affordable options on the 1150 platform for GTA. You might consider upgrading to an older model like the 1155 and purchasing a used i5 for better value. If sticking with the 1150 is necessary, checking Craigslist or similar sites could help you find a used 4460.
I have already purchased a new RAM (16GB) since I also do editing and believe it will be sufficient for GTA to run smoothly. Earlier, I used a GTX 260 (895MB) graphics card with the same CPU, and GTA ran without issues—only on low settings. Later, I upgraded to a 960 (2GB), which caused screen flickering. Is this related to the graphics card? I also tested other games on the new 960 to check if the GPU is the problem. With League of Legends at 200fps Ultra, CSGO at 250fps Ultra, TF2 at 250fps, Dota 2 at 200fps, and Far Cry 4 at 50fps High settings, there’s no lag or screen shutter. I’m certain the issue lies with the CPU but not with GTA. Why does it work fine on other titles but not on GTA? How can this happen?
