GTA V might become available on multiple platforms eventually. Opinions vary, but some believe current differences in targeting could create an uneven experience for players on PC versus consoles.

As someone who has played this on both my PC and a friends console, I really hope not. On console, when you are driving down a highway (singleplayer), there tends to be a reasonable amount of traffic on your side, and none on the other. Switch to the other side into oncoming traffic however, and suddenly there is lots of traffic on the left side and barely any on the right. This does not happen on PC (unless you turn traffic density way down, probably?). When you play online, PC always has rich roads full of vehicles, whereas the online roads on console tend to be barren and with very little traffic. The amount of players that can coexist in an online session is smaller in console too. And other things. This is to say that console has limitations that PC does not, and IMO it would be unfair to subject PC to the restraints that console has. But why would you want crossplay between platforms anyway?

Check which titles work across PS4, Xbox, and PC. Many games are available on multiple platforms, but PSN restrictions might limit access to certain titles.

This late point in the game's cycle, plus the modder problem online on PC, makes it impossible.

I understand your point. However, keep in mind, if Rockstar can optimize for the PS4 Pro or similar platforms, it could help bypass certain restrictions.

It's still true that console hardware is quite outdated.

The crossplay feature isn't really impacting performance much. It's more about the business side and the companies' priorities. Sony and Microsoft had to negotiate first. RockStar seems focused on adding straightforward content rather than developing this, since they already have enough players across platforms. They prefer generating revenue through in-game purchases or grinding, which is where they earn most of their income. Perhaps if player numbers drop significantly, they'll consider making it available on a single platform to unify the audience.
