GTA V lag spikes
GTA V lag spikes
I recently purchased a new hard drive to fix performance problems in GTA V. I assumed the HDD was the problem because my game often ran at 99-100% usage. In reality, it actually helped my FPS slightly, though not much. Still, I sometimes experience lag when entering crowded areas. Now that the HDD issue is resolved, what’s causing these lag spikes? Here are my PC specifications: GPU – NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960 2GB CPU – i3 4170 3.7 GHz MEMORY – 4GB 1666 MHZ DDR3 STORAGE – SEAGATE 7200 RPM 1TB SATA III POWER SUPPLY – CORSAIR VS650 80 PLUS BRONZE
During the game, you might experience high CPU usage or high GPU load. It’s possible the CPU is restricting performance, though this is just an assumption without concrete data.
It's not the GPU issue; the system should run the game smoothly. I noticed others on YouTube using similar configurations and playing without problems. The main difference was their 8GB of RAM, so it’s possible the memory could be affecting performance.
It seems the game loads the world into RAM in a certain way. I previously built a second PC using spare components to understand its performance with those parts, but I only had 4GB of RAM. It would spike when moving between map areas. Adding another 4GB now keeps it running smoothly at over 60 FPS.
Sure, I checked some benchmarks online, and everything works well with that configuration. It’s probably the RAM issue. Also, since I’m using only a fraction of the GPU memory, that shouldn’t be the main problem.
