GTA V Issues
GTA V Issues
Hi everyone. I haven't played GTA V in two years but kept the game on my PC. Today I tried again but ran into problems. First, I don't have the Steam version. I also don't have it linked through Steam (I won't do that either). That's resolved: when I start the game, I see the screenshot below. It looks like the window is too small, and I can't adjust it. I can't launch the game from here either, and updating it seems impossible. I found a tool that lets the game skip the launcher, which works. But oddly enough, even though I can play online, the game still doesn't update, so I can't use the new DLC. It doesn't exist. I don't want to have to reinstall this huge problem. I'm having trouble finding anyone else with the same issues. Any help would be really appreciated.
It should have updated automatically when I launched the launcher. The previous version worked smoothly, but now the new one doesn't behave like it should. It shows what you see in the screenshot, yet the window remains too small and resizing isn't possible. Buttons labeled "launch" or similar are missing, making it hard to scroll past them. I'm stuck with this issue.
i'm willing to bet anything if i tried to play a boxed copy of age of empires from the 90s it also would have a similar issue with not automatically updating
there's no reason a game this far out of date has any reason to have the ability to find it's original update server , have the server somehow still have the update files specifically for a 2 year old version , then proceed to install that version and have it just work perfectly with an os that has 2 years of updates on it as well.
reinstall it , your op post was 26 minutes ago which is starting to near the amount of time it takes to install almost any program.
GTA V remains an updated game that continuously checks for improvements and installs them. My inability to start and enjoy it isn't related to the age of my system.
so is the steam version of age of empires available?
i’m struggling to find another way to express this without saying the opposite.
well, i’ll say this: an hour and a half is far less time than it would take to try updating or fixing your current setup.
I didn't find much useful or supportive in this discussion. It might have been easier just to stay out of this thread. I downloaded the launcher again from Rockstar's site and reinstalled it. Now the game is updating and seems to be functioning properly. Also, it took about 20 minutes for the update to complete.
I didn't reinstall the game itself; I just reinstalled the launcher. The game is around 60gb of base files, which is why I didn't want to reinstall it initially. They suggested reinstalling the whole game, not just the launcher.
I've posted this on the PC Gaming forum, in case there are helpful responses available.
Rockstar has recently switched to a new launcher for their titles, replacing the previous Rockstar Games Social Club launcher.

To stay current, you'll need to download and install the updated Rockstar Games Launcher.
I haven't tried it yet, and I don't own a physical copy of GTA V, but I think it should work with the same account details as your RGSC account. Your GTA V copy should remain linked through the new launcher, allowing it to update automatically without needing a full download.
