GTA V experiences slow performance and GPU strain.
Hey everyone – this has been really frustrating lately, and I’m running out of options. Here’s a quick summary of what I’ve tried:
- Specs: 3770k processor @5GHz, 1070p graphics, 8GB RAM, 1600MHz clock speed.
- Stability: Consistent 60fps at max settings, but drops to 70–80 in city mode.
- CPU usage: Around 70–80% regardless of game settings. Core 0 peaks near 100%.
- When I push high resolutions (1440p), FPS stays low and GPU load climbs to ~70%.
- Even after a full custom water cooling setup and CPU overclock, usage stays high (~80%) and performance remains poor.
I’ve tried reinstalling Windows, updating drivers, swapping RAM, and even redownloading games. Still nothing changes. Today I’m experiencing frame freezes lasting a few seconds. It feels like my PC is giving me a strong rebuke for upgrading.
For reference, other titles like Battlefield run smoothly, but this issue pops up in several others. I’m at my limit and would really appreciate any advice or help to identify what’s causing the problem! Thanks in advance – I’ll keep you posted.
Cheers,

Did you remove the video drivers using DDU and then reinstall them? Be sure to delete them first, or problems may occur.
Try the latest 1070 model if you're facing problems; otherwise, use the older Nvidia drivers.
Ensure GeForce is not conflicting with game options. Unless you specifically require shadowplay, I suggest removing it.
Referenced in the message, I opted for a full clean installation using the newest drivers. Later, I applied DDU and reinstalled, yet the problem persisted.
Are you still updating to the latest compatible driver? Nvidia has a reputation for poor driver development and frequent issues.
Currently at version 376.33, the release occurred on the 12th of December. I've encountered this problem a few times from other users... perhaps reverting some updates could resolve it?
