GTA IV, LA Noire and RAGE overall deliver strong performance.
We understand that GTA IV isn't a great port, anyone have insights on LA Noire? I'm not too concerned about the 30Hz setting, but how solid is the performance? Can I consistently hit 30 FPS with a 3570K and a 760? I can afford it for $8 and haven't played the DLC on PS3, so I'm asking here. I don’t think Max Payne 3 port represents the engine well; it runs okay in that game but struggles in GTA IV. In GTA IV, I usually get 160 FPS indoors, only dropping to 35-45 FPS during open areas. When I push it, it reaches 60 FPS, but it’s not smooth everywhere.
It seems like you're suggesting that "La Noire" might be a more suitable choice.
L.A. Noire Fixes address several issues in the original game, such as the frame rate limit, though I haven't played it and don't know their effectiveness. Released in 2011, it runs smoothly on a GTX 760, which would have matched a high-end card back then. I wouldn't anticipate major performance issues.
I’m facing some major performance problems with GTA IV. I’m curious whether things will improve or get worse. It seems the developers have stopped using the rage engine, so my current understanding doesn’t match what’s happening now. From what I’ve heard about achieving over 30 FPS, it can mess up mission timing—like when a crucial NPC gets hit by a car and the mission fails. Watching at 0:50 and 1:44 makes it look pretty funny.
Hey there, curious one! GTA IV first hit PC with some performance issues back then. Since the Episodes From Liberty City update came out, they really pushed the RAGE Engine and fixed the shadows—now it runs smoothly. The 1.0.6.0 patch turned the game into a solid experience. Originally it wasn’t great, but Rockstar really stepped up with those changes. With today’s specs, you’d probably hit 30fps or more on that same setup. It’s impressive how far they’ve come!
