You're experiencing a discrepancy between your GPU specs and the performance limits in CrossFire on GTA 5. The 7970 is a powerful GPU, but it can be limited by game settings or system constraints. In complex graphics mode, the game might cap performance at 6GB or 3GB depending on how it interprets your hardware capabilities. Check your system settings and ensure the GPU is recognized correctly.
VRAM doesn't stack ATM so you only have 3GB effective, but when you're seeing 6GB GTA V is just doubling everything. There's no good reason it does it for now but with DirectX12 and/or Vulkan vram may stack. I guess that's the reason they implemented it now.
